Wakefield Country Courtyard,
Fridays (revised day)
13:00 – 15:00
Refreshments available from the bar area and the delicatessen.
Tucked just off the A5 between Milton Keynes and Towcester, Wharf Distillery is a real find. It’s located in an old stone barn and surrounded by fields. What a great place for a quiet afternoon’s reading.
A long drive takes you straight to the parking area with the venue itself straight ahead. This isn’t perhaps a spot you’d normally consider turning up to with a book in hand but it really is a great choice. Just to the right as you enter you’ll find a charming bar area where cold drinks are served and the delicatessen area to the left has a wide range of food choices that make for the perfect snack.
Reading Room Setup
You can settle to read in the bar area itself or, on a dry day, there are tables and chairs in the courtyard. This is not a sole use venue so there may be other customers around during your visit. Between 1 and 3pm is a good time for You and a Book sessions, it’s a great time for parents to grab a quick break before the school run.
While visiting look out for information on other events. The venue is run by Laurence and Alice and they frequently host a wide range of events, normally food and drink related. In fact the inspiration for You and a Book pop-up reading rooms was partially inspired by their first pop-up restaurant in April 2017.
Remember that this is a Distillery as well as a delicatessen so there’s a range of artisan spirits brewed on site. The newest in the range is the Safine Drenc Gin but you’ll also find brandy, whiskey and a range of liqueurs of all flavours. This is a truly local and enterprising business so there’s plenty to learn during your visit.
